December 2nd 2005 Report: Demonstration to Support Taciana Khoma in front of the Belarussian Embassy, Paris.

On December 2nd 2005, a demonstration in order to support Taciana Khoma was organized in front of the Belarussian Embassy by the Young Greens of the Institute for Political Studies of Paris (Sciences Po), with the help of several other organizations. The organizers carried a letter addressed to the Ambassador by 7 French Members of Parliament (Martine BILLARD, Marie-Christine BLANDIN, Alima BOUMEDIENE-THIERY, Yves COCHET, Jean DESESSARD, Noël MAMERE, Dominique VOYNET).

The aim of the demonstration was to demand the reinstatement of Belarussian student Taciana Khoma at her university (Belarus State Economic University). Ms. Khoma was excluded recently, following her election to the executive committee of ESIB (The National Unions of Students in Europe). Several European Ministers, the E.U. Commission, and many European foreign ministries have expressed their concern as well as requested Taciana Khoma’s readmission. An electronic petition (http://www.stlweb.no/signatures.asp) has already received thousands of signatures.

The demonstrators gathered in front of the Embassy of Belarus. One student symbolically built a university which another activist, disguised as Lukachenko, then destroyed.

Following this, the protestors had a long discussion with the First Secretary of the Belarussian Embassy (Mr. Sergei Anoshko). The Embassy refused the MPs letter without any further explanation.

We continue to demand Taciana’s reinstatement and call upon all citizens to support her by signing the petition.
